Poll: Which Men’s Olympic Champion Would Win?

Yesterday, we asked you to vote for which of the past three women’s Olympic champions in triathlon you think would win in a head-to-head race at each of their gold medal winning peaks.

Today, we are posing the same question for the men.

Whereas the women’s poll consisted of the winners from London, Rio and Tokyo, this poll will also have the winner of Beijing in 2008. This is because Alistair Brownlee won in both 2012 and 2016. Rather than compare him against himself, we decided to group his victories. As such, a vote for Brownlee is for either his 2012 or 2016 iterations, whichever you feel was stronger.

In 2008, Jan Frodeno won the gold medal in Beijing, beating out pre-race favourite Javier Gomez Noya. Meanwhile the 2021 gold medal was won by Kristian Blummenfelt. Both Frodeno and Blummenfelt have since enjoyed incredible success over the long distance whereas Brownlee has thus far had the more illustrious short distance career.

There was very little overlap in the peaks of these men and so we have never really seen them go head-to-head.

Who, then, do you think would win if they raced at their absolute peak?
