Montreal Will Be The Most Open Men’s WTCS Race Of 2023

In light of the news that Hayden Wilde and Alex Yee have dropped out of WTCS Montreal, the race is suddenly wide open. The Series leader – and one of the most consistent athletes this season – Dorian Coninx will also be absent. Bergere and Coninx also medalled in Montreal in 2021 (with the latter winning the event) and so would have been among the favourites this time aroud. The…

As with the men’s field, the final places for the World Junior Championships in Hamburg have now been assigned. World Triathlon reserved four slots on the start list for invited athletes. However, as a number of countries did not submit their entries either on time or at all, the number of invites was ultimately larger than expected. Heidi Henry has been added to the start list, extending the Canadian team to four women. As seen with some of the men’s teams, while there is a cap of three athletes per…

Invites Added to the 2023 World Junior Championships

Seventy men and seventy women will start at the World Junior Championships in Hamburg. To get to that magic number, though, a complicated process had to be followed to assign the right to race. To start with, sixty-five slots for both genders were assigned at pre-determined qualification events. One slot per gender was then reserved for the host country and the last four places were covered by “invites” sent by World Triathlon. You can read more about the process of earning slots here. However, things are not quite as simple…

A regular host of European Championships, including races over the Olympic distance in 2014 and 2017 and the Super Sprint in 2021, it also used to be a frequent stage of the WTCS. Its final appearance in the Series included the iconic race up the mountain in 2013. The innovative mountain climb route was not on the agenda for the athletes taking part in this weekend’s European Cup and at that some will have breathed a sigh of relief. Among those lining up to…

No Stopping Castro as he Makes it Back-to-Back Wins

The unstoppable force of the Spanish men’s team met the immovable object of Tyler Mislawchuk’s success in Huatulco. For many athletes, there can often be a case to be made that they have one venue in particular that suits them, for whatever reason. For Mislawchuk, that venue seems to be Huatulco. Wins in 2019 and 2021 preceded a silver medal in 2022. But for Genis Grau’s majestic sprint finish last year, the Canadian would have made it a hat-trick. As he took his place on the beach, Miswlachuk was a…

Alvarez Lights Up Huatulco World Cup With Blistering Run

It has been coming. Like a gathering storm on the horizon, it was possible to see Anahi Alvarez Corral approach yet there was precious little anyone could do about it. Silver medals followed at the Americas Cups in Punta Cana and Ixtapa; across those races only one woman has actually managed to out-split Alvarez on the run (Domnicky…
