After much anticipation, World Triathlon have confirmed the location of the 2024 World Triathlon Championship Series Final.
Earlier today Malaga, Spain, was revealed as the host. It will mark the second consecutive year that Spain will host the WTCS Final after Pontevedra holds the event this coming September. On the elite side, the event will host the WTCS Final as well as the World Championships for the U23, Junior and Para-triathlon categories.
In a shift from 2021 and 2022, the Juniors will have their World Championships alongside the WTCS Final. This year, the Junior event will run alongside WTCS Hamburg in July.
Malaga will also play host to the the Mixed Relay World Championships for the U23/Juniors.
On the age-group front, Malaga will host races over the Olympic distance, Sprint distance and an age-group Mixed Relay World Championships.
Regarding the news, Jose Hidalgo, the President of the Spanish Triathlon Federation said, “the commitment of Spain to triathlon has been fantastic, with Ibiza, Madrid and Pontevedra hosting major World Triathlon events, and announcing that next year we will have the Finals in Malaga and the 2025 Multisport Championships in Pontevedra, confirms our status on the international scene”.
The location of the 2024 Final was originally due to be revealed last November, as per the bid document. You can read a full breakdown of how cities bid to host WTCS Finals and other such events here.
Where the 2025 Final will be held remains to be seen. For now, though, athletes will be able to plan ahead to next year’s Final with the knowledge of their racing venue.
