Double WTCS race winner Dorian Coninx popped up in the forests in the region of Poissy and Saint Germain en Laye at the weekend.
In a successful venture into the woods, he won the 10km at La Pisciacaise. Coninx recorded 30:54 for his efforts on a mix of asphalt and grass. By way of comparison, in 2022 Coninx’s Poissy Triathlon team mate Aurelien Raphael took the win over the 10km in a time of 31:42.
As per an Instagram story posted after the race, Coninx was instructed to tackle the 10km as two rounds of 3km fast followed by 1km easy. The final 2km of the course was then supposed to be fast again.
Ostensibly, it would therefore appear that Coninx was not at full tilt but still had enough to produce a commendable effort.
Nor was this the first running race we have seen Coninx take on this spring. He earned an impressive 4th place at the Championnats AURA de Cross-Country.
In addition his run came on the same weekend in which Alex Yee took on the English National Road Relays. There are few meaningful comparisons between Yee’s and Coninx’s showings. Nevertheless, in a broader perspective, they both are indicative of how the best male triathletes are sharpening up as the season enters full kilter.
On the triathlon front, Coninx already has a 5th place at WTCS Abu Dhabi to his name this season. In four weeks he will be racing again at WTCS Yokohama. In Japan he will need to finish in the top-5 to lock in his place at the Olympic Test Event in Paris.
While compatriot Leo Bergere has already booked his slot for the Test Event, Coninx will be up against Vincent Luis and Tom Richard as both also look to earn places in the top-5 to get on the Test Event start line.
Amidst fierce competition, Coninx will need to be at his best in his upcoming races. Luckily for him, he appears to be rapidly closing in on his top form.
