The 2023 WTCS has not quite unfolded as people expected.
In the pre-season poll that asked who people thought would be world champion, Flora Duffy and Georgia Taylor-Brown were the most popular answers. In total, two-thirds of respondents selected them.
However, Duffy has not raced all season while Taylor-Brown will miss the WTCS Final with injury. Although Taylor-Brown won WTCS Cagliari, she was not really in a position to win the overall title.
Taylor Knibb was also a popular choice. Yet she too will be absent.
The full votes looked as follows:
- Georgia Taylor Brown – 34%
- Flora Duffy – 32%
- Someone else – 15%
- Cassandre Beaugrand – 13%
- Taylor Knibb – 6%
13% of the voters picked Cassandre Beaugrand to win the title and she will arrive in Pontevedra as the Series leader. Right with her, though, will be Beth Potter.
Potter has three WTCS wins to her name this year while Beaugrand has two. If neither were heavily favoured going into the season, that will change going forwards.
For the time being, though, the 2023 title is on the line and Potter and Beaugrand look like the favourites. Of course, someone like Emma Lombardi or Taylor Spivey could take the crown with a big race. Indeed, there is talent throughout the start list. Given their form, though, Beaugrand and Potter look like the best bets.
Take your pick below, then, to predict the women’s world champion.
Check back in the coming days for the results of the poll.
