Amid the recent news that Taylor Knibb has signed for UCI World Tour team Trek-Segafredo and will be racing at the US National Time Trial Championships, another WTCS athlete took to the starting gate of a national time trial.
Anne Holm raced at the Danish Championships in Aalborg and came away with 7th place.
Over a 26.3km route described as completely flat, she stopped the clock in a time of 36:47. That gave her an average speed of 42.89 km/h. At the first checkpoint, 7.3km in, Holm was in 10th place. Over the next segment, she worked her way up to 7th where she stayed for the remainder of the course.
In the end, Holm finished 2:24 down on the winner, Emma Norsgaard of Team Movistar. A silver medallist in the road race at the 2017 World Junior Championships, Norsgaard had already finished 4th at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad earlier this year. To get within striking distance of an elite cyclist was therefore a respectable showing from the Danish triathlete.
Moreover she came within a minute of making the podium, suggesting plenty of untapped potential on the bike.
If nothing else, the race was a good marker of fitness for Holm. Earlier in the year, she enjoyed a great race at the African Cup in Nelson Mandela Bay at which her swim and bike really fired. However, injury ended her day prematurely, giving her a DNF and an unwanted lay-off from the sport.
She recently returned with at the French Grand Prix in Bordeaux where she finished 14th for Issy Triathlon.
Next up for Holm will be the European Games in Poland. In a rapid turnaround, she will have a few days to prepare herself for the event in Krakow-Malopolska.
With her cycling looking on form, she can head to Poland buoyed by her recent display.
